Does playing a gold token proc playing a card for Legion effect?

No. Playing a Gold gear token does not count as playing a card for the Legion condition.

Per Rule 812.1.c, Legion checks whether a card different from the one with Legion has been finalized that turn. Rule 052 defines "card" in game effects as shorthand for "Main Deck card," and tokens explicitly are not cards (Rule 182). A Gold gear token is a token created by an ability, not a Main Deck card — so playing it never satisfies the "played another card" requirement for Legion.
