At what point do you get the point for conquering? Is it after combat resolves?

Answer

You get the point immediately when you Establish Control after a Showdown or Combat resolves — it's a game action, not a triggered ability on the Chain.

Here's the precise sequence (Rules 461.5, 464.1, 466, and FAQ #8622/#6175):

  1. The Showdown (Combat or Non-Combat) resolves.
  2. Establish Control — the player with units remaining takes control of the battlefield. Contested is cleared.
  3. If that player has not already scored this battlefield this turn, this constitutes a Conquer — and they gain the point immediately (Rule 466).
  4. Then, any "when I conquer" triggered abilities (from units or the battlefield itself) are placed on the Chain as Pending Items.

So: point first, triggers second. The point is not a triggered effect — it happens instantly as part of the Conquer, before anyone gets priority to react.
