Answer

Short answer: No — the enemy can't Salvage your Boots in response to either playing it or equipping it. Salvage is [Action], not [Reaction].

  • Playing Boots: No reaction window at all. Permanents (units/gear) resolve immediately when finalized on the chain — priority doesn't pass (Rule 337.2; FAQ #5909). Boots is simply in play at your Base.
  • Equipping: Equip is an activated ability that goes on the chain and creates a Closed State, so opponents can respond — but only with Reaction cards/abilities (Rule 813; FAQ #634, #10637). Salvage is [Action] ("Play on your turn or in showdowns"), so it can't be played in that response window.

Where Salvage can hurt you: on the enemy's own turn, or in a Showdown, they can play Salvage targeting your Boots — even while it's equipped, since attached gear is still a valid target (FAQ #6150, #9699). If they kill the equipped unit instead, the Boots just detach and get recalled to your Base next cleanup.
