Deck out rules in riftbound

Answer

You can't lose by "decking out" — instead, running out causes a Burn Out, which hands your opponent points.

  • Drawing the last card is free. As long as your Main Deck has ≥1 card when you draw, you just draw it — no penalty (Rule 413.4).
  • Drawing from an empty deck triggers a Burn Out. You draw as many as possible, shuffle your Trash into your Main Deck (randomized), choose an opponent to gain 1 point, then finish the draw (Rule 431.2). If your Trash is also empty, you Burn Out repeatedly — each attempt gives another point.
  • Burn Out points are dangerous: after the first Burn Out resolves, subsequent points can't be prevented, and if a Burn Out point puts a player at/above the Victory Score, that player wins immediately — no waiting for cleanup (Rule 431.3).
  • Looking/revealing cards doesn't Burn Out — if an effect tells you to reveal/look at the top X but you have fewer, you just reveal as many as possible and resolve it normally (Rule 431.1.c).
  • Milling to Trash (putting cards from deck to Trash) also causes a Burn Out if it exceeds your remaining deck (Rule 431.1.b).
