Can you explain to me the FEPR process and the combat changes made in Unleashed?

Answer

FEPR is the process Riftbound uses to resolve everything on the Chain: Finalize → Execute → Pass → Resolve (–340). Its full name in current rules is HOT FEPR — Handle Outstanding Tasks first, then FEPR (FAQ #9397).

Here's what each step does:

  1. Finalize — Pending Chain items complete their play steps (choices, costs, legality) in the order they were added. Units, Gear, and abilities that Add resources resolve immediately here rather than waiting ().
  2. Execute — The player with Priority may play a legally timed card/ability (e.g., a Reaction) or pass ().
  3. Pass — If everyone passes without adding anything, you move to Resolve; otherwise priority moves on ().
  4. Resolve — The newest finalized item resolves fully. If more items remain, you loop back ().

Two practical takeaways: if a Task (cleanup, combat step, etc.) becomes outstanding mid-process, FEPR pauses until the task is handled () — cleanup never interrupts Finalize mid-step. And once the Chain empties back to an Open State, play resumes normally (during a Showdown, Focus passes to the next player unless the Chain came from triggers/Add effects, ).

I noticed multiple unrelated questions. I've answered the first one — please ask the others in separate messages so I can give each one proper attention.

Does this answer look correct?
