FAQ #12278·asked by Sett Lover·August 26, 2026
Answer

Yes — but only against single-target bounce or kill spells that target the unit.

Thrill of the Hunt banishes the unit (a non-board zone) and replays it as a brand-new game object. Since moving to a non-board zone severs the targeting relationship, a spell already on the chain that targeted the original unit — like a "return to hand" or "kill" spell — will mistarget and fizzle against it (Rule 359.3.e; FAQ #10035, #10869).

Two big exceptions: it does not protect against non-targeting effects. Mass bounce/kill ("return all units", "kill all units") or board-wide damage (e.g., Unchecked Power) will still hit the replayed unit (FAQ #10753). And if an effect makes you kill one of your units without targeting (e.g., Cull of the Weak), the replayed unit is still on board and still a legal choice — you can't skip it (FAQ #11595).
