Answer

Radiance rules aren't published yet. This uses the printed card and current rules only, and it isn't a ruling on the new mechanics.

I can't read the ball's text — it isn't in the card database, so the exact wording (trigger vs. activated ability, what it targets, whether it's a token) is unknown to me. Based on current rules only: if the damage is a triggered or activated ability that's already on the chain, then bouncing the ball to hand in response does not stop it. The ability resolves independently of its source once it's on the chain, and it only fails to deal damage to a target that has become illegal — e.g. a unit that left the board for hand or trash (FAQ #4351; ).

Two things I'd need the printed text for: whether the ball itself is a token (if so, bouncing it makes it cease to exist rather than die, so any "when this dies" clause wouldn't fire — FAQ #2804) and whether the damage is tied to a condition that requires the ball to still be in play at resolution. If the card is written so the damage is part of the bounce-triggering event itself, say so — that's the piece I can't confirm. This is my interpretation based on Rules 327/359.3.e and FAQ #4351. No official FAQ exists for this specific interaction.
