Answer

Radiance rules aren't published yet. This uses the printed card and current rules only, and it isn't a ruling on the new mechanics.

No — a Deploy gear alone can't score. Scoring is either Conquer (gaining Control of a battlefield) or Hold (maintaining Control in your Beginning Phase), and Control is established only by having Units at a battlefield (, 190.4.a); a gear is not a Unit, so with no units there you neither gain nor maintain Control. Contested status likewise comes only from a Unit becoming present (), so a Deploy gear entering doesn't even start the Showdown that could lead to Control.

Practically, Deploy gear is a benefit-sitting piece: it grants its effect while you hold that battlefield with units, and it's killed when an opponent holds there. If you have no units there at all, you can't score it by any route.

This is my interpretation based on Rules 190.4 and 471; no official FAQ exists for this specific interaction.
