Does sending azir to hand in response to move trigger cancel it ?

Answer

Yes — if you return Azir, Sovereign to hand (or otherwise remove him) in response to his attack trigger, his "move any number of your token units to this battlefield" ability resolves but does nothing, so no tokens move.

Technically it isn't cancelled or countered — it still resolves, but "this battlefield" can only be evaluated from Azir's current location, and a unit that's left the board has no location, so that instruction is ignored (, FAQ #2127). Timing matters: this only works while the trigger is still on the Chain — once it resolves, the tokens have already moved.

One distinction: if Azir is merely moved to a different battlefield, the trigger still works and the tokens follow him to the new battlefield. It only whiffs if he's killed, bounced, or moved to Base. Same logic applies if you bounce Azir, Ascendant mid-ability — his swap does nothing, since he's no longer on the board to be swapped or to have an "original location."
