At high OPL, how do you rule on a disputed Ravenbloom Student trigger when one player claims it was announced and the other claims it wasn't, with no physical tracking (dice) being used?

Answer

Ruling: Have both players walk through the sequence of events again. If they still dispute whether the trigger was announced, allow the trigger to resolve but permit the opponent to respond to it (e.g., casting Gust in response to the Ravenbloom trigger), since they had the response in hand and no additional information has changed.

Sequence:

  • Cast Cleave, allow response
  • Cleave resolves
  • Ravenbloom Student triggers, allow response
  • Opponent may respond with Gust (or other interaction) to the trigger
  • Resolve chain accordingly

Nuances:

  • In Riftbound, triggered abilities must be announced when they occur, unlike MTG where some triggers (like Prowess) only need to be acknowledged when they would visibly affect the game
  • Each event opens a chain and priority should be passed between players
  • If a player shortcuts through multiple game actions quickly ("Cleave, Ravenbloom, move to conquer") without giving proper time to respond, this may be considered improper shortcutting
  • Players are not required to use dice to track might changes, which makes disputes harder to resolve objectively
