Answer

Ruling: When a unit with Assault leaves combat (stops being an Attacker), it loses the Assault bonus. If its might was reduced during combat, removing the Assault bonus can result in negative might, which is treated as 0. When the unit attacks again, it regains the Assault bonus.

Sequence:

  • Pout Poro starts at 5 might (2 base + 3 from Assault)
  • Smokescreen reduces it to 1 might (locked for the turn)
  • After moving back to base (no longer an Attacker), Assault is removed: 1 - 3 = -2 might
  • Might of -2 is treated as 0
  • When attacking the same battlefield again, Assault reapplies: 0 + 3 = 1 might (still locked at 1 by Smokescreen)

Nuances:

  • Assault only applies while the unit is designated an Attacker
  • Smokescreen's "to a minimum" clause only matters on resolution; it locks the might value for the turn
  • Negative might values are treated as 0 for game purposes, but the underlying value is still tracked
