When a Zero Drive is attached to a unit with Deathknell, what happens when that unit dies?

Answer

Ruling: Both Deathknell triggers and Zero Drive's banish effect will go on the chain. You decide the order they resolve in. The Deathknell will resolve normally using the unit's information from when it was on the board, regardless of whether Zero Drive banishes the unit before the Deathknell resolves.

Sequence:

  • Unit with Deathknell and attached Zero Drive dies
  • Both triggered abilities go on the chain
  • You choose the order they resolve
  • Deathknell uses noted information from when the unit was on board and resolves normally even if Zero Drive banishes the unit first

Nuances:

  • When a unit dies, you note its information as it existed on the board
  • It doesn't matter what happens to the physical card afterward (banished, returned to hand, returned to board) - the Deathknell uses the noted information
