If a spell like Void Seeker has multiple instructions (deal damage to a target, then draw a card), and the target becomes illegal, does the draw still resolve?

Answer

Ruling: When a spell has separate instructions and the target becomes illegal, only the instruction requiring the illegal target fails to execute. Other instructions that don't require that target still resolve.

Sequence:

  • The deal damage instruction fails because the target is no longer on the battlefield
  • The draw card instruction still resolves because it doesn't require the target
