If you miss a trigger (like Candlelit Sanctum's conquer trigger) and take another action before remembering it, does your opponent get to choose whether you can resolve the missed trigger?

Answer

Ruling: If you miss a trigger, your opponent gets to choose whether you get to resolve it or not.

Nuances:

  • In competitive events (like finals), it is acceptable not to give your opponent a missed trigger
  • In casual or lower organized play levels, leeway should be given and the focus should be on educating players in the spirit of fair play
  • Repeated missed triggers in the same game may be treated differently even in casual play
