Answer

Ruling: If a unit moves to a battlefield without any move triggers, you cannot play anything before the showdown starts. However, if there are any triggers, players can react with reactions pre-showdown. The turn player can also play cards before they move anywhere to start a showdown.

Sequence:

  • Turn player may play cards before moving to initiate showdown
  • Unit moves to battlefield
  • If move triggers exist, players can play reactions before showdown
  • If no move triggers exist, showdown starts immediately with no opportunity to play cards

Nuances:

  • Only reactions can be played in response to move triggers, not normal spells
  • The timing depends on whether the move generates any triggers
