Can Vanguard Armory's Recruit unit tokens be played to open battlefields or occupied battlefields to start showdowns?

Ruling: You can only play the Recruit tokens to valid locations. Open battlefields and occupied battlefields are not valid play locations for most units.

Nuances:

• If you somehow have a way to make open battlefields valid play locations, you would choose one of the two battlefields to begin a showdown at, then proceed to the second showdown when the first is finished (with points possibly being rewarded for both)
• Currently there is no way to make occupied battlefields valid play locations for most units
• The only card that makes open battlefields valid for other units is a purple card, and there is no yellow/purple legend yet
