How should a judge rule when both players missed a passive ability (+2 Might from Yi Legend) during combat, resulting in an incorrect showdown outcome, and several game actions (conquering, moving units, discarding/drawing cards, and playing a card) occurred before the error was noticed?

Answer

Ruling: At low OPL (Nexus Night), this should be rewound with both players receiving warnings under General Error. At high OPL (Summoner Skirmish and above), a rewind would not be granted, but both players would still receive warnings.

Sequence: (for low OPL rewind)

  • Player 2 takes back the card played and sets runes back, then randomly shuffles one card from hand into deck
  • Player 1 randomly shuffles one card into deck, takes back second discard, randomly shuffles one card into deck, takes back first discard, moves merchants back
  • Darius and Yi both die from the corrected 10v10 showdown
  • Random cards are chosen from hand when rewinding drawn cards per tournament rules

Nuances:

  • This falls under General Error (not missed trigger) because passive abilities are not triggers and involve public information that both players are responsible for tracking
  • At Professional OPL, this would not be rewound due to the severity of information gained
  • Both players receive warnings regardless of OPL, as both failed to track public information correctly
  • Warnings are not about maliciousness but about tracking errors and providing a record; a single warning has no penalty on its own
