When Smokescreen reduces a Ravensbloom Student to 1 might (from 2), and then Stupefy resolves triggering the Student's +1 might ability, does the Student end at 1 might or 2 might?

Answer

Ruling: The Student ends at 2 might. Smokescreen's effect "snapshots" when it resolves, applying a one-time modification rather than continuously monitoring the unit's might.

Sequence:

  • Student is attacking with 2 might, Player A gains focus
  • Player A plays Stupefy, Player B responds with Smokescreen
  • Smokescreen resolves, reducing Student to 1 might (snapshots at this moment)
  • Stupefy resolves, giving -1 to target unit and Player A draws a card
  • Student's trigger (+1 might when you draw) goes on stack and resolves
  • Student is now at 2 might

Nuances:

  • Smokescreen and similar effects are "snapshot" effects that apply once when resolved, not continuous effects that recalculate based on game state changes
