Answer

Ruling: Focus allows players to play Action-timed cards, while priority allows players to add Reaction-timed cards to the chain. After a chain completes, focus passes to the next turn player. During a resolving chain, priority (not focus) passes to the controller of the next card on the chain after each card resolves.

Sequence:

  • When you pass focus by asking your opponent if they want to activate something, you can no longer activate Actions
  • When a trigger creates an initial chain, the state is closed and no Action can be played
  • Once the initial chain completes, the player who moved maintains focus and can play an Action
  • If they pass, the opponent gets focus to play an Action
  • If both players pass in succession, the game continues
  • During chain resolution, after each card resolves, priority passes to the controller of the next card on the chain
  • That player can add as many reactions in a row as they want
  • Attack triggers go on chain first, followed by defense triggers

Nuances:

  • You can play a reaction card on top of your own card without passing focus
  • Actions require waiting until your opponent passes focus back after chain completion
  • Players can react to triggers with reaction-timed cards
