Can Tideturner allow you to score points during the enemy's turn by swapping positions with another unit, temporarily leaving a battlefield empty?

Answer

Ruling: Tideturner cannot gain points in this way because both Tideturner and its target move as part of the same game effect, so there is never a time where a battlefield is empty.

Nuances:

  • The current Comprehensive Rules are not entirely clear on whether the movements happen simultaneously or whether control can be lost mid-resolution
  • The card uses "and" (not "then") and references "original location" which suggests the movements are linked
  • The rules state "Control is a constant state with no reliance on timing" but how this applies during effect resolution is ambiguous
  • A new Comprehensive Rules update is expected to clarify this interaction
  • While the conclusion is that scoring shouldn't be possible, the exact mechanical reasoning requires clarification in updated rules
