When Yasuo attacks a battlefield with Ahri and has Mask of Foresight, what is the order of triggered abilities? Does this change when Ahri uses Charm on Yasuo instead of Yasuo attacking naturally?

Answer

Ruling: The order of triggered abilities is determined by attacker-player first, then defender-player, regardless of whose turn it is. When Yasuo attacks naturally, Yasuo's player (attacker) puts their triggers on the stack first, then Ahri's player (defender) adds theirs. When Ahri uses Charm on Yasuo, Yasuo is still considered the attacker applying contested, so the trigger order remains the same: Yasuo's player first, then Ahri's player.

Sequence:

  • Yasuo's player (attacker) places their triggers on the stack in their chosen order (Yasuo damage trigger on bottom, Mask of Foresight on top)
  • Ahri's player (defender) places their triggers on the stack (-1 Might from Legend, -2 Might from Champion)
  • Stack resolves in reverse order: Ahri's abilities reduce Yasuo to 3 Might, then Mask increases to 4 Might, then Yasuo deals 4 damage

Nuances:

  • Attacker-defender ordering is only used for the initial chain of a combat showdown; other times even mid-combat use player order
  • All triggered abilities must go on the stack before anyone can interact; then the player controlling the last item on the chain gets priority
