Should a game be rewound when a player incorrectly healed a unit after attacking an empty battlefield (showdown, not combat) the previous turn, and the opponent has already drawn for the current turn?

Answer

Ruling: The game should not be rewound. This is a general error and not a simple rewind situation because the opponent has already drawn for turn, making it impossible to fairly determine what the previous hand state was.

Nuances:

  • Attacking an empty battlefield is a showdown but is not combat, so combat healing does not trigger
  • A rewind would require randomly putting a card back into the deck after the opponent had drawn, which cannot fairly restore the previous game state
  • Both players share responsibility for the error and should proceed with the current game state
