At high OPL events, when playing Stacked Deck with Annie, what is the proper procedure for randomizing the 2 cards placed on the bottom of the deck - do you need to ask opponent's consent beforehand or offer to cut each time?

Answer

Ruling: You do not need to verbally ask permission beforehand or every time. Instead, hold out the cards to be recycled and wait for your opponent to say "you're good" or indicate they want to cut.

Nuances:

  • Asking the opponent prior to the game not to randomize sounds suspicious and is not recommended
  • Since Annie casts at most four Stacked Decks per game, offering the opponent the opportunity to shuffle or cut shouldn't take much time
  • The non-verbal approach (holding out cards and waiting for acknowledgment) is more efficient than verbal offers each time
