Answer

Ruling: OPL stands for Organized Play Level. While the rules technically prohibit holographic sleeves in OPL tournaments, in practice players have been using official holographic sleeves (like worlds sleeves) without issue, though you should check with the Head Judge to be safe.

Nuances:

  • Rules as written and rules as actually enforced are somewhat different for sleeve rules
  • As long as sleeves aren't distractingly holographic, Head Judges typically approve them
  • It's recommended to bring matte backup sleeves to structured events in case a judge enforces the rule more strictly
  • Checking your deck in with the Head Judge at structured events is a good practice
