Answer

Ruling: Damage does not reduce a unit's Might stat. Instead, damage is marked on units temporarily, and a unit dies when the marked damage equals or exceeds its Might. Units always deal damage equal to their full Might value regardless of how much damage is marked on them.

Sequence:

  • When damage is dealt to a unit, it is marked on that unit but does not reduce its Might
  • The unit's Might remains unchanged for purposes of dealing damage in combat
  • If marked damage equals or exceeds the unit's Might, the unit dies
  • Damage is cleared from ALL units at the end of each player's turn and at the end of each combat

Nuances:

  • A unit with 0 Might still needs to be marked 1 damage to be killed
  • Reducing a unit's Might (through effects like Stupefy) can kill it if the damage already marked on it becomes equal to or greater than its new Might
  • Spells that deal damage greater than a unit's Might will not immediately kill the unit, but the cleanup that happens after the spell resolves will remove the unit from the board
  • Damage is tracked by memory or any method all players agree on
