Ruling: The card stays banished for the rest of the game. It does not move to the trash.

Nuances:

• This matters for decks with abilities to recur cards from trash (like Teemo or Ezreal decks with Annie)
• This ruling was originally in the FAQ and was the reason for the errata to Promising Future
• While the FAQ is deprecated, the errata was created from it so the ruling still applies
