When do 'When you play a spell' triggers resolve - before or after the spell resolves?

Answer

Ruling: 'When you play a spell' triggers resolve after the spell resolves. A spell is considered 'played' only after it has fully resolved.

Sequence:

  • Spell is added to the chain
  • Targets are declared and costs are paid
  • Players can react
  • Spell resolves and instructions are executed
  • Spell is considered 'played' (triggers resolve at this point)
