If my opponent uses Smokescreen on my buffed Sett (reducing might by -4) and kills him with Falling Star, will Sett still have the -4 reduction if I save him?

Answer

Ruling: Yes, Sett will be at 0 might after being saved. Smokescreen's reduction is snapshotted for the entire turn when it resolves, and the "minimum of 1" clause is not re-evaluated after the spell finishes resolving.

Sequence:

  • Sett starts at 5 might (4 base + 1 from buff)
  • Smokescreen applies -4 reduction (5 - 4 = 1, doesn't hit minimum)
  • The -4 value is locked in for the turn
  • Sett dies and buff is spent, returning to 4 base might
  • The -4 reduction still applies (4 - 4 = 0 might)
  • Sett survives at 0 might until taking damage

Nuances:

  • The "minimum of 1" from Smokescreen only applies when the spell resolves, not continuously throughout the turn
  • Units can survive at 0 might until they take damage
  • Smokescreen reductions cannot be healed since they are not damage
