When a damage spell (like Hextech Ray or Void Seeker) targets an enemy unit that gets retreated to hand before the spell resolves, what happens to the spell?

Answer

Ruling: Spells in Riftbound don't fizzle and always resolve. If the target unit is retreated before the spell resolves, the spell still goes off but has no effect (like missing a skillshot). There is no re-targeting.

Nuances:

  • This is different from MTG where spells can fizzle
  • Countered spells are an exception - they don't resolve and are not considered to have been played
