If I play Void Seeker targeting an enemy unit on a battlefield and my opponent reacts by moving their unit away (leaving no other units on that battlefield), do I still draw 1 card?

Answer

Ruling: You still draw 1 card. You target when you cast the spell, so when the opponent moves the unit away, it is no longer a unit at a battlefield and you do not deal 4 damage, but you still draw 1.

Sequence:

  • You target when you cast Void Seeker
  • Opponent moves their unit away in response
  • The unit is no longer a valid target (not a unit at a battlefield)
  • You do not deal 4 damage
  • You still draw 1 card

Nuances:

  • You do not have to retarget your own unit if the original target becomes invalid; the targeting was already completed when you cast the spell
