When Watcher reduces all units' Might by 2 and then Rumble, Scrapper (who gives +1 Might to all mechs) is killed by the same spell, what is the final Might of the mech tokens?

Answer

Ruling: The mech tokens end up at 0 Might but do not die. Units can have 0 Might without dying.

Sequence:

  • Arcane Shift begins resolving, playing Watcher to base
  • Watcher's ETB effect is not on the chain yet (Arcane Shift must fully resolve first)
  • Arcane Shift deals 3 damage to Rumble, Scrapper, killing it
  • Arcane Shift finishes resolving
  • Watcher's ETB effect goes on the chain and resolves, reducing all units' Might by 2
  • At the time Watcher's effect applies, the mech tokens are at 4 Might (3 base + 1 from Rumble still active)
  • Watcher's effect snapshots and reduces them to 1 Might (4 - 2, limited to minimum 1)
  • After Watcher's effect resolves, Rumble's +1 Might buff is removed as a state-based effect
  • The tokens drop from 1 Might to 0 Might

Nuances:

  • Watcher's effect is snapshotted when applied and limited at that time
  • Rumble's continuous effect is always checked and has no limitation
  • Units at 0 Might do not die
