When Ravenbloom Student (2 power) is reduced by Watcher's -3 power effect, does it go to 1 power and then increase normally from spells, or does it 'remember' the unused negative modifier?

Answer

Ruling: The -3 power reduction is not a lasting effect. Watcher looks at the current power, subtracts 3 to a minimum of 1, and then the effect ends. Any spells played afterward will increase the Student's power from 1 upward normally.

Sequence:

  • Student starts at 2 power
  • Watcher's effect reduces it by 3, but minimum is 1, so Student becomes 1 power
  • The -3 effect ends (does not persist)
  • Playing a spell increases Student's power from 1 (e.g., to 2 if spell gives +1)

Nuances:

  • The reduction does not carry over unused negative modifiers; the unit does not 'remember' that only 1 of the -3 was applied
