Answer

Ruling: Deadbloom cannot be played to an open battlefield. It can be played to your own occupied battlefield because you can play a unit to anywhere you control, or to an opponent's occupied battlefield as stated on the card.

Nuances:

  • The card's text allows playing to an occupied battlefield, which includes both your own and your opponent's occupied battlefields
  • Open battlefields are not valid targets for Deadbloom
