Answer

Ruling: Reflexive triggers are triggered abilities (not spells) that are added to the chain after their parent spell resolves. Players can react to each individual reflexive trigger, but cannot react while the triggers are being stacked onto the chain - all triggers must be added first before reactions can be played.

Sequence:

  • Play the spell and make any initial targeting choices (e.g., Dragon's Rage targets unit and destination)
  • Spell resolves (e.g., unit moves)
  • If successful, reflexive trigger(s) are added to the chain in one shot with all targeting choices made
  • Players can now react to each reflexive trigger individually
  • Each trigger resolves separately

Nuances:

  • Reflexive triggers cannot be countered by counterspells like Windwall or Deny because they are triggered abilities, not spells
  • For damage purposes, reflexive trigger damage counts as being dealt by the original spell (e.g., for Phoenix revival or bonus damage effects)
  • Each targeted reflexive trigger requires paying deflect costs separately (e.g., Falling Star targeting Qiyana twice costs 4 power total: 2 base + 1 deflect + 1 deflect)
  • You don't announce reflexive trigger targets until the spell resolves, so opponents cannot counter the spell based on those targets
  • Damage from reflexive triggers happens at different times, not simultaneously
