Answer

Ruling: When you gain control of a unit with attached equipment, the equipment moves with the unit but you do not gain control of the equipment itself. The equipment remains under the original controller's control.

Sequence:

  • Player takes control of unit with attached equipment
  • Equipment physically moves with the unit but controller does not change
  • Opponent can use abilities like weaponmaster to move the equipment from the possessed unit to their own units
  • When the possessed unit dies, equipment recalls to its controller's base (the original owner)

Nuances:

  • This creates edge cases where equipment may end up in an opponent's base when the possessed unit dies there, which may require cleanup rules to handle recalls in that situation
