If you control a Battlefield with Zilean and you use Mirror Image, do you get one or two ready tokens at base?

You get two ready Reflection unit tokens at your base.

Here's the breakdown:

  1. Mirror Image says "Play a ready Reflection unit token to your base." That's a "play a token unit" event, so Zilean's replacement effect kicks in (once each turn). It replaces the event: instead of playing 1 token, you play that token and an additional copy of it — 2 tokens total.

  2. Both tokens enter ready because Mirror Image's "ready" instruction applies to the play event, and per Rule 375, the copy generated by Zilean's replacement effect inherits those modifications.

  3. Then Mirror Image's follow-up applies: "It becomes a copy of that unit. Give it [Temporary]." As confirmed in the Zilean + Deceiver ruling (FAQ #9917), when a replacement effect creates extra tokens from a single play instruction, all resulting tokens inherit subsequent modifications to the event. So both tokens become copies of your chosen unit, and both gain Temporary.

End result: 2 ready Reflection tokens at your base, each copying the target, each with Temporary.
