When you play Shuriken Flip and target an enemy unit at a battlefield, must you move your friendly unit to that same battlefield?

Ruling: No. You can move your friendly unit to any valid location, including your Base or a different battlefield. The card does not restrict the destination of the move.

Sequence:

  • Choose targets when playing Shuriken Flip (up to one enemy unit at a battlefield, and one friendly unit to move)
  • Choose the destination for the friendly unit's move (any legal location per Rule 355.4)
  • Deal 2 damage to the targeted enemy unit (if any)
  • Move the targeted friendly unit to the chosen destination

Nuances:

  • If you choose 0 targets for the "up to one enemy unit" part, the move instruction still executes normally with player-chosen destination
  • The card lacks linking language like "there," "to that battlefield," or "here" that would tie the move destination to the damage target's battlefield
  • This follows the same templating principle as Charm, where the player freely chooses the move destination
  • FAQ #11751 discusses healing after combat when a unit moves into an occupied battlefield, but does not mandate that the move must go to the damaged unit's battlefield
