If I equip Shady Spectacles to a unit with Temporary (such as a Sprite or Reflection token), does it remove the Temporary keyword?

Ruling: It depends on whether the Temporary is printed or granted. Shady Spectacles' copy effect operates in Layer 1 (trait-altering), while granted keywords apply in Layer 2 (ability-granting). The copy effect only affects copyable traits, not granted effects.

Sequence:

  • Layer 1: Shady Spectacles makes the equipped unit a copy of the chosen unit, overwriting its copyable traits (printed name, type, Might, keywords, rules text)
  • Layer 2: Granted effects (like Temporary from Deceiver or Mirror Image) apply on top of the copy

Nuances:

  • If a unit has printed Temporary (like Sprite) and you copy a unit without printed Temporary, the equipped unit loses Temporary because the copy overwrites its printed traits
  • If a Reflection token has been granted Temporary by Deceiver/Mirror Image, equipping Shady Spectacles does not remove that granted Temporary—it persists because granted effects are not overwritten by copy effects
  • When copying a Reflection token that has granted Temporary, the granted Temporary is not copied to the new unit because copy effects only see copyable (printed/copied) traits, not granted ones
