Why were banish-before-play errata added to cards like Baited Hook, Blind Fury, Dazzling Aurora, Nocturne, and Promising Future?
Ruling: Banishing the card before playing it prevents complications when playing the card needs to be undone (such as when it becomes illegal during finalizing). Without banishing first, it's unclear whether to return the card to the top or bottom of the deck, or shuffle it into recycled cards.
Sequence:
- Card is banished first
- Then the card is played
- If playing needs to be undone, the card simply stays in banish
Nuances:
- Cruel Patron provides an example where you find the card but can't finalize its additional cost, requiring the play to be undone
