Sequence:

• Opponent plays spell/ability targeting a unit at battlefront
• You react by moving your unit to your base
• When the chain begins to resolve, there is a check if the effect/target is still valid
• Since the target is no longer at the battlefront, it is illegal and the effect has no effect
