Can you target the same unit twice with Bellows Breath if I paid the repeat cost?
Yes, you can target the same unit twice with Bellows Breath if you pay the Repeat cost.
According to the RiftJudge FAQ #8461 and #8454:
- Targeting: While a single instance of Bellows Breath cannot target the same unit more than once, the repeated instance is a separate set of choices. This allows you to choose the same unit again in the second execution of the effect.
- Resolution: The first instance deals 1 damage to the unit. Then, the second instance deals 1 damage to the unit.
- Survival: Damage is marked on a unit but does not reduce its Might. Lethal damage is only checked during Cleanup, which occurs after the entire spell (including the repeat) has finished resolving. Therefore, if the unit has 1 Might, it will survive the first hit and only be defeated during the cleanup phase after the second hit has landed.
Key Nuances:
- Locations: You can choose the same location for both instances, or you can choose a different location for the second instance.
- Choices: Per Rule 746.2.a, choices made for the additional execution do not have to be the same as the choices made for the initial execution.
