Answer

No — moving into an empty battlefield does not make you an attacker.

Attacker/Defender designations only exist during Combat Showdowns, which require opposing units present. Moving to an empty battlefield creates a Non-Combat (Open) Showdown (Rule 429.1 / 446.1), where there is no attacker or defender at all (FAQ #2244).

Two useful follow-ups:

  • If the opponent moves a unit in during that showdown as a "surprise defense," the first showdown resolves, then a second Combat Showdown begins — and you become the attacker, because your unit was the first to apply Contested (Rule 459.2.b).
  • Things like Assault or "when I attack" triggers won't fire while it's just the Open Showdown, since the unit isn't attacking (FAQ #946).

I noticed multiple unrelated questions. I've answered the first one — please ask the others in separate messages so I can give each one proper attention.
